Winter warmers

As we observe the world around us – the brisk morning air, hardened ground, dew shimmered grass and crunchy golden leaves – we realise that Mother Nature’s rhythm is telling us that winter is here.

The change of season brings with it a slower pace of life and importantly a breath of delicious fresh and flavoursome produce that is best enjoyed roasted, sautéed or stewed. Hearty seasonal dishes are warming to the soul but also a great way to incorporate leftover produce – odds and ends, frozen or fresh.

From soups to stews and curries to casseroles, winter is about slow-cooked and batch recipes you can enjoy with family and friends, and easily store and reheat to minimise mid-week kitchen capers.

This month, we will be showing you how to turn your skins, roots, stalks, leaves, ends, peelings and leftover bones into the perfect soup! To help you shop smart and seasonally, we also have a handy winter produce pocket guide, as well as information on how to utilise your freezer.

We were delighted with the response to our Stop Food Waste Day Challenges last month, a big thank you to everyone that entered! From fish rotis to hot cross bun bread and butter pudding, we were inspired by your passion and the wealth of your waste-free food knowledge.

We invite you to share your delicious recipes with us, and hope you continue to practice new cooking skills over these wondrous winter months.
